Disco polo

Disco polo

Disco polo is a Polish dance-pop genre that formed in the late 1980s from the wedding-band repertoire of Polish folk song, Italo disco and Euro disco. Its songs use simple chord progressions, synthesiser and keyboard arrangements and a steady dance beat, with sentimental or playful Polish lyrics about love, holidays and village life. Initially sold from street and bazaar stalls as 'sidewalk music', the genre became a mass phenomenon in 1990s Poland through *Bayer Full*, *Top One*, *Boys* and *Akcent*, centred on the Podlaskie region, and revived in the 2010s when *Weekend*'s 'Ona tańczy dla mnie' became a national hit.
