Downtempo Deathcore

Downtempo Deathcore

Downtempo deathcore is a subgenre of deathcore that replaces speed with weight: songs unfold at slow, dragging tempos around breakdown-centred structures, with extremely down-tuned guitars, sparse arrangements and long passages of dissonant atmosphere. Where conventional deathcore alternates blast beats and grooves, this variant stretches the breakdown into the song's main event, layering processed gutturals, industrial noise and ambient textures over chugs that land at half or quarter pace. Developed in the 2010s by bands in the British and Swedish scenes, it draws as much on doom metal and djent as on its parent style.
