Dungeon Rap

Dungeon rap is an internet-born hip hop microgenre created by the Ukrainian producer *DJ Sacred*, fusing 1990s Memphis rap with dark ambient and dungeon synth. Tracks run at a slow 60–65 BPM: murky, lo-fi production, minor-key synth loops, long atmospheric introductions, and vocals sampled from vintage Memphis tapes, chopped and buried low in the mix, over which the producer may rap in a clipped double-time flow. Its imagery is drawn from roguelike games — Dwarf Fortress, ASCII dungeons and medieval fantasy — and from a hauntological nostalgia for lost futures.
