Dungeon Sound

Dungeon sound is the nickname given to the brooding, classicist strain of dubstep that consolidated in London around 2009 to 2012, named for its cavernous, subterranean atmosphere. Championed by *Youngsta*'s #Rinse FM# broadcasts and labels such as #Black Box#, #Chestplate# and #Tempa#, it rejected brostep's aggressive midrange in favour of dubstep's original values: half-step drums at around 140 BPM, immense sub-bass, dub-derived space and echo, and sparse, meticulously engineered sound design. *Kryptic Minds*' "One of Us" and "Can't Sleep", and the productions of *Distance*, *J:Kenzo* and *Truth*, are its defining records.
