Dungeon Synth

Originating from the ambient interludes of early 1990s black metal, Dungeon Synth isolates and expands upon this nascent form. The genre is defined by its use of rudimentary synthesizers and keyboards to create melodic, often melancholic soundscapes evocative of medieval fantasy, folklore, and solitude. A deliberately lo-fi production aesthetic, stemming from its tape-trading roots with artists like *Mortiis* and *Burzum*, remains a core tenet. Though it has never achieved mainstream recognition, the genre thrives in a dedicated underground community, disseminated through digital platforms and independent labels, serving as a private soundtrack for imaginative worlds.
