Dutch Folk Music

Dutch folk music covers the traditional song, dance and dialect music of the Netherlands and its modern revival: historical ballads and sea songs, regional-language singing in Gronings, Frisian and Limburgish, and the folk-rock that followed. *Folkcorn* reconstruct Dutch and Flemish repertoire from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, *Fungus* electrified traditional material in the 1970s, and the activist group *Bots* joined Breton melodies to Dutch protest lyric. In Groningen, *Ede Staal*'s dialect songs made him a posthumous regional emblem; dialect rock by *Normaal* and *Rowwen Hèze* carried the same impulse to mass audiences.
