Dutch Hip Hop

Dutch Hip Hop

Dutch hip hop, or Nederhop, is hip hop rapped in Dutch, built in the Netherlands from the late 1980s by Amsterdam's *Osdorp Posse* and *Extince* of Brabant, who proved the language could carry the form's density and humour. The scene divides between the sample-based, lyrically prized underground of *Opgezwolle* and *Typhoon* and a commercial mainstream that, from the 2010s, dominated the Dutch charts outright through *Ronnie Flex*, *Broederliefde* and *Lil' Kleine*. Its subjects are local by design: housing estates, slang from Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Zwolle, and the everyday economics of Dutch street life.
