Early Industrial

Early industrial denotes the first wave of industrial music, roughly 1975 to 1984: the confrontational synthesis of electronic sound, tape collage, noise and performance art practised by *Throbbing Gristle*, *Cabaret Voltaire*, *SPK*, *Clock DVA* and their peers. Taking its name from #Industrial Records# and the slogan 'industrial music for industrial people', the style treated factories, media saturation and psychological control as subject matter, and built its sound from synthesizers, treated guitar, found sound and machine rhythm rather than from rock instrumentation.
