Edge Metal

Edge metal is the metallic straight-edge hardcore style named by *Good Life Recordings* founder Edward Verhaeghe for the sound of Kortrijk's *Congress* and adopted by *Liar*: hardcore's tempo and ethics rebuilt with death- and thrash-metal guitar technique. Down-tuned riffs, double-kick drumming and barked vocals carry militant vegan and straight-edge lyrics, distinguishing edge metal from both the punkier youth-crew revival and the increasingly technical American metalcore of the same years. The term belongs to the H8000 scene of West Flanders, where edge metal was less a marketing category than a declaration of allegiance.
