EDM

EDM, or electronic dance music, is the umbrella term for the commercial mainstream of club music that consolidated in the United States during the early 2010s. As a style it denotes big-room and festival-oriented dance tracks built on four-on-the-floor beats around 128 BPM, supersaw chords, sidechained bass and an arrangement of builds and breakdowns resolving in a single drop. Acts such as *Daft Punk*, *Skrillex*, *Avicii* and *Swedish House Mafia* supplied its defining records, and its economy runs on DJ sets, festival main stages and streaming singles rather than the underground club circuit from which its techniques were drawn.
