Educational Music

Educational Music

Educational music is music composed and recorded to teach: songs and recordings that carry curriculum content (counting, letters, language, science, health and social skills) into classrooms and homes, chiefly for children. Its specialist labels, above all #Educational Activities#, built catalogues for teachers from the 1950s, and *Hap Palmer*'s movement-based recordings made physical participation a teaching method. The field overlaps children's entertainment but is defined by pedagogical intent: *Ella Jenkins*' participatory folk recordings, the *Schoolhouse Rock* songs of *Bob Dorough* and classroom movement music all aim at learning through singing, rhythm and repetition.
