Egg Punk

Egg punk is a style of punk that emerged in the American Midwest in the early 2010s, defined by deliberate amateurism, surreal humour and cheap synthesizer sounds. Bands favour lo-fi home recording, tinny monophonic keyboards, frantic tempos and short, repetitive songs, with vocals delivered in nasal, yelping or deadpan conversational styles. Its lyrics dwell on mundane absurdity, alienation and social awkwardness rather than punk's traditional confrontation. Circulating through DIY cassette labels, blogs and online communities — the scene around Indiana's *The Coneheads* and labels such as #Lumpy Records# — egg punk codified a contrarian, nerdish punk identity opposed to hardcore machismo.
