Electro

Electro

Electro emerged in the early 1980s as a direct descendant of *Kraftwerk*'s robotic melodies, Parliament-Funkadelic's funk, and burgeoning New York hip-hop. It is defined by its use of drum machines, particularly the Roland TR-808, to create syncopated, funk-indebted rhythms. This rhythmic foundation is paired with analog synthesizer basslines, science-fiction-themed soundscapes, and often processed, vocoder-treated vocals. Pioneered by *Afrika Bambaataa & The Soulsonic Force* with their seminal track "Planet Rock", the genre established a crucial bridge between electronic music and hip-hop, shaping the sonic architecture of dance floors and urban sound systems.
