Electro-Disco

Electro-Disco

Electro-disco is the form of disco that emerged in the late 1970s when producers replaced the orchestral arrangements of classic disco with synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines. Built in Munich, New York and San Francisco studios around the innovations of *Giorgio Moroder*, it pairs a steady four-on-the-floor pulse with arpeggiated electronic basslines, vocoder treatments and futuristic synth melodies. *Donna Summer*'s "I Feel Love" supplied the template, and producers such as *Patrick Cowley* and *Cerrone* extended it into Hi-NRG and space disco. Its cool, machine-driven surfaces and extended club mixes laid the technical groundwork for house, techno and Italo disco in the following decade.
