Electro-Punk

Electro-Punk

Electro-punk fuses the confrontational economy of punk with synthesizers, drum machines and sequenced basslines in place of the guitar-band format. Songs are short and hook-driven, built on monophonic synth riffs, cheap electronic percussion and shouted or deadpan chant-like singing, often in a deliberately lo-fi register. The term covers two overlapping currents: the late-1970s synth-punk of *Suicide* and *The Screamers*, where electronics carried punk's aggression, and the German Electropunk scene that coalesced around #Audiolith# in the 2000s, where acts such as *Egotronic* and *Frittenbude* married rave and hip hop energy to anti-authoritarian, party-ready sloganeering.
