Electro Trance

Electro trance is a strand of trance music that emerged around 2004, grafting the gritty basslines and clipped riffs of electro and electroclash onto trance's long, melodic builds. Developed by Dutch and European producers such as *Ferry Corsten*, *Marcel Woods* and *Gabriel & Dresden*, it drops the euphoric supersaw chorus in favour of bass-led grooves, distorted saw leads and tension held over extended breakdowns. It became the harder, clubbier face of progressive trance in the mid-2000s and fed directly into the big-room sound of the following decade.
