Electronic pop

Electronic pop is popular music in which electronic instruments, synthesizers, drum machines, samplers and digital production, form the music's primary substance rather than decoration. It crystallized in the late 1970s and early 1980s as *Kraftwerk*'s machine rhythms met pop songcraft in synth-pop acts such as *The Human League* and *Depeche Mode*, whose albums "Dare" and "Violator" proved synthesizer music could dominate the charts. From electropop and dance-pop to the streaming era's bedroom production, electronic pop is now the default grammar of mainstream popular music worldwide.
