Electrotango

Electrotango

Electrotango, also called tango electr贸nico, is the fusion of Argentine tango with electronic dance music production that emerged in Buenos Aires and Montevideo around 2000. It retains tango's bandone贸n, violin, piano and double bass, its march-like four-beat pulse and its melancholic melodic writing, but rebuilds the music over programmed beats, loops and synthesisers. *Gotan Project*'s "La Revancha del Tango" (2001), *Tanghetto*'s "Emigrante (electrotango)" (2003) and the *Bajofondo* collective's "Bajofondo Tango Club" (2002) established the form internationally, presenting tango to club audiences as a living music rather than a heritage repertoire.
