Euro-Disco

Euro-Disco

Euro disco is the continental European form of disco that flourished from the mid-1970s into the 1980s, distinguished from its American counterpart by a stronger reliance on synthesizers, sequenced basslines and producer-led studio construction. Centered on Munich, Paris and Stockholm, it favored sleek, melodic songwriting, English-language singing delivered by multinational acts, and an increasingly electronic pulse that pointed toward hi-NRG, Italo disco and house. Where American disco grew out of funk and soul orchestras, Euro disco treated the recording studio and the production team as the creative center, with performers often assembled around a producer's concept.
