Extratone

Extratone is the fastest branch of speedcore, defined by tempos at or above 1,000 beats per minute, at which individual kick drums fuse into a continuous tone whose pitch can be bent by changing the tempo. Producers build tracks from that pitched kick tone, harsh noise, samples and brief lower-tempo passages, exploiting the boundary between rhythm and pitch. Emerging from the German and wider European speedcore underground at the end of the 1990s and spread through netlabels and video platforms in the 2010s, it is less a dancefloor form than an extremity of hardcore techno pursued as digital sport and provocation.
