Florida Breaks

Florida breaks is the breakbeat style that formed in Florida's rave scene in the mid-1990s, fusing electro and Miami bass low end with funk and hip-hop breaks, house and techno elements. Centred on Orlando and Tampa and labels such as *DJ Icey*'s #Zone Records#, it favours punchy 808 bass, bright melodic synths and rolling, party-forward grooves around 130 BPM. *DJ Icey* and *DJ Baby Anne* became its ambassadors, exporting the sound through mix CDs and constant touring while the state's clubs sustained a breaks-first dancefloor culture.
