Folktales

Folktales, as a recorded genre, gathers spoken-word albums that preserve oral storytelling: narrated folk tales, fairy tales and trickster cycles performed by actors and tradition-bearers for the record. The LP era label #Caedmon# issued canonical examples like *Boris Karloff*'s readings of "Just So Stories" and "The Reluctant Dragon", while *Carl Sandburg* recorded his own American fairy tales on "Rootabaga Stories". These records carried pre-literate narrative traditions into the home, preserving regional voices, dialects and story cycles that print alone could not.
