Forró eletrônico

Forró eletrônico is the electrified, commercially dominant form of forró, the dance music of Brazil's Northeast, developed in Fortaleza in the early 1990s. Where the traditional pé-de-serra trio used accordion, zabumba and triangle, the electronic bands built around a full stage ensemble of electric guitars, keyboards, drum kit and horn sections, playing faster, louder arrangements for very large dance floors. Its romantic songs replaced the rural humour of the older repertoire, and its leading groups — *Mastruz com Leite*, *Aviões do Forró* and *Calcinha Preta* — became some of the biggest-selling live acts in Brazil, transforming the June festival circuit into an arena business.
