Forrócore

Forrócore is the fusion of hardcore punk with forró, the accordion-led dance music of Brazil's Northeast, created in Brasília in the early 1990s by *Raimundos*. Zabumba drum patterns and baião syncopation are driven at hardcore speed under distorted guitars, while the singing keeps forró's rural humour and double meanings. The band's debut "Raimundos" (1994) and "Lavô Tá Novo" (1995) made the hybrid a national phenomenon and proved that Brazilian regional rhythm could carry punk aggression. Always centred on its inventors, forrócore remains the defining sound of *Raimundos* and a landmark of Brazilian rock.
