Frapcore

Frapcore

Frapcore is a French fusion of hardcore techno and French rap, coined around 2013 by the Paris collective *Casual Gabberz* and its founders *Evil Grimace* and *Von Bikräv*: gabber and frenchcore kicks at 140 to 210 BPM carrying samples, hooks and full verses lifted from French hip hop. Where classic gabber kept vocals to shouts and slogans, frapcore treats the rap record as raw material, pitching MCs such as *Gazo* and singers such as *Aya Nakamura* over distorted kicks in sets built for warehouses. It began as a provocation — hardcore kids remixing the rap their scene had ignored — and became a signature sound of France's rave revival.
