Freetekno

Freetekno is the sound of the free party and teknival movement: fast, hard, largely instrumental techno produced and played by travelling sound systems at unlicensed outdoor events across Europe. Built on pounding kick drums around 150-180 BPM, acid lines and industrial noise, it grew from the British collective *Spiral Tribe*, whose Network 23 label defined its raw, live-produced aesthetic. Crews such as France's *Heretik System* carried the style into a pan-European underground network in which the music, the rig and the nomadic party are inseparable, and in which releases circulate as 12-inch singles rather than albums.
