French Touch

French touch is the strain of French house music that rose to international prominence in the late 1990s, built on filtered disco and funk loops, heavy compression and a sleek, melodic sensibility. Spearheaded by *Daft Punk*, whose "Homework" (1997) and "Discovery" (2001) defined the style, it drew on producers including *Cassius*, *Bob Sinclar*, *Étienne de Crécy*, *Modjo* and *Motorbass*, many connected to labels such as #Roulé#, #Source# and #Versatile#. Its signature sound — loops filtered in and out of focus over house beats — updated 1970s disco and boogie for the club and crossed into global pop.
