Funk Blues

Funk blues is the meeting of electric blues and 1970s funk: deep-pocket grooves, wah-wah and rhythm guitar chops, horn punches and dancefloor tempos under blues forms and blues singing. *Johnny "Guitar" Watson* defined it on "Ain't That a Bitch" and "A Real Mother for Ya", *The Meters* brought the New Orleans variant, and *Albert Collins*, *Robert Cray* and *Stevie Ray Vaughan* carried its groove into the modern blues mainstream. It is blues written for the body as much as the heart.
