Funk brasileiro

Funk brasileiro is the umbrella term for the Brazilian funk styles that grew out of Rio de Janeiro's baile funk parties: a DJ- and MC-led dance music built from sampled breakbeats, the heavy tamborz茫o drum pattern, shouted call-and-response vocals and, later, the accelerated 150 BPM pulse. Originating when Rio DJs reworked Miami bass, freestyle and hip-hop imports for favela sound-system parties, it developed distinct regional scenes, carioca in Rio, paulista in S茫o Paulo, brega funk in Recife, each with its own dances and slang. Its lyrics move between party hedonism, favela chronicle and explicit proibid茫o content.
