Funk de BH

Funk de BH is the Belo Horizonte variant of Brazilian funk that emerged in the 2010s when producers in the capital of Minas Gerais slowed the frenetic Rio template down. Where funk carioca and São Paulo's bruxaria pushed speed and aggression, the mineiro sound favours atmospheric, minimal beats, heavy low end and space for melodic MC delivery, a shift associated with DJs such as *Gordão do PC* and *WS da Igrejinha*. A noisier offshoot, nicknamed barulhado, is built for the powerful car sound systems of the city's periphery. The style turned Belo Horizonte into Brazilian funk's third pole, alongside Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
