Funktronica

Funktronica is the fusion of funk with electronic music production: live funk instrumentation and groove — electric bass, wah guitar, brass, Rhodes piano, improvisational interplay — combined with synthesizers, drum machines, sampling and club-oriented structures. The term covers both producer-led electronic funk, from blog-house and nu-disco acts to the Los Angeles beat scene, and the 'livetronica' jam bands such as *Particle* that pair funk performance with digital tools. What unites the field is the priority of the groove: tracks are built for dancing, but played with the looseness and instrumental interplay of a funk band rather than programmed alone.
