Funky House

Funky house is a subgenre of house music built around samples and interpolations of 1970s funk and disco records, combining four-on-the-floor drum programming with live-sounding basslines, wah guitar, string sections and soulful vocals. Tracks typically run near 125 to 128 BPM and favour bright, uplifting arrangements, filter sweeps and extended breakdowns designed for mainstream club play. Originating in the United States and the United Kingdom during the mid-1990s, the style became the commercial face of house music in the following decade, when labels such as #Defected# and #Hed Kandi# packaged it for a broad dance audience.
