Future Riddim

Future riddim is a subgenre of dubstep that merges the halftime drum patterns and repetitive bass design of riddim with the bright chords, melodic leads and polished sound design of future bass. The term was coined around 2018-2019 by producers *Ace Aura* and *Oolacile*, and the style is centred on colourful, arpeggiated synth riffs, video-game and anime samples, and drops built from pitched, melodic basslines rather than the sparse minimalism of earlier riddim. Its scene is internet-native, organised through SoundCloud, Discord and labels such as #Disciple# and #Never Say Die#.
