Futurepop

Futurepop is an electronic dance genre that developed in the late 1990s within the EBM and industrial club scene, replacing EBM's harsh minimalism with the melodic song structures of synthpop and the arpeggiated leads and euphoric builds of trance. Vocals are sung cleanly and centrally, without the distortion typical of electro-industrial, and the writing retains the darker, dystopian outlook of the parent scene. The term was coined by Ronan Harris of VNV Nation in conversation with Apoptygma Berzerk's Stephan Groth, and the style became a fixture of European dark-music festivals and clubs in the 2000s.
