Gabber

A Dutch style of hardcore electronic dance music developed in Rotterdam in the early 1990s, defined by very fast tempos, generally between 160 and 220 beats per minute, and a kick drum distorted until it becomes a dense, pitched wall of sound. Gabber tracks layer hoover synths, rave stabs, sampled shouts and hardcore or hip-hop breaks over that kick, with structures kept deliberately direct for warehouse and party use. The style grew from the Rotterdam club scene and labels such as #Rotterdam Records#, acquired a mass youth following in the Netherlands, and later hardened into mainstream hardcore and its faster successors.
