Garage Punk

Garage Punk

Garage Punk is a hybrid music genre that merges the raw, fuzz-drenched guitar tones of 1960s Garage Rock with the accelerated tempos and confrontational ethos of late 1970s Punk Rock. Emerging in the early 1980s, the form is defined by its lo-fi production values, aggressive and often simplistic song structures, and a lyrical focus on primal, adolescent themes. Instrumentation is typically limited to a standard rock setup of electric guitar, bass, and drums, often played with a deliberate lack of technical polish. The genre largely operated outside of the commercial mainstream, cultivating a dedicated underground following and influencing subsequent alternative rock and indie rock movements through its emphasis on energy and authenticity over virtuosity.
