Ghettotech

Ghettotech is Detroit's accelerated booty music, formed in the mid-1990s when DJs fused Chicago ghetto house, Miami bass, electro and Detroit techno into tracks running near 140 BPM. The term was coined by producer *Disco D* and journalist Hobey Echlin for a sound built on stripped drum-machine loops, heavy 808 bass and X-rated chant samples, designed for the jit, Detroit's fast footwork dance. Released largely on local labels such as *DJ Godfather*'s #Databass Records# and *DJ Assault*'s #Electrofunk Records#, ghettotech was sold through Detroit shops and heard in clubs and car systems rather than national media.
