Glacial Ambient

Glacial ambient is an ambient strain devoted to cold, vast and remote places: extremely slow-moving drones, field recordings of ice and wind, and harmonic material reduced to near-stillness. Pioneered by *Thomas Köner*, whose "Permafrost" and "Novaya Zemlya" treated the Arctic as both subject and sound source, and extended by *Biosphere*'s arctic ambient from Tromsø, the style favours deep, frozen tones, granular textures and immense reverberant space. Where mainstream ambient offers warmth and comfort, glacial ambient pursues the sublime of polar night, distance and abandonment.
