Global Pop

Global pop is chart pop made outside the Anglo-American centre that achieves worldwide reach while retaining local language and identity: Swedish-written Euro-pop, K-pop, J-pop, reggaetón, Afrobeats-influenced pop and francophone pop among them. Groups and singers such as *ABBA*, *BTS*, *Shakira* and *Rosalía* pair regional sounds and languages with international production values, choreography and visually driven marketing. Streaming and social video dissolved the old gatekeepers, so a song in Korean, Spanish or French can now top charts on every continent simultaneously.
