Goral Music

Goral Music

G贸ral music is the traditional music of the G贸rale, the Polish highlanders of Podhale in the Tatra Mountains, played by the string band known as the kapela g贸ralska. Its core sound is interlocking violins, the narrow z艂贸bcoki fiddle and a three-stringed bass, driving dances such as the zb贸jnicki and supporting shepherds' calls, whistling and the glissando cries of women's singing. The tradition absorbed Carpathian, Balkan and lowland Polish influences along shepherding routes, and family ensembles such as *Trebunie-Tutki* carried it to the world-music stage, while pop-folk groups including *Zakopower* and *Golec uOrkiestra* brought highlander melodies to the Polish mainstream.
