Grebo

Grebo emerged in the English Midlands during the late 1980s, an alternative rock subgenre and subculture that fused disparate sonic elements. It drew from garage rock, 1970s glam, psychedelia, and early hip-hop, creating a sound that was both raw and technologically adventurous. The genre is characterized by its heavy, often distorted guitar riffs, integrated with prominent electronic beats and extensive use of sampling. This sonic collage was paired with a casual, scruffy aesthetic, forming a counterpoint to the more polished indie scenes of the era. Though its commercial peak was brief, grebo's hybridization of rock and dance music prefigured the broader alternative dance and Britpop movements of the 1990s.
