Halftime

Halftime

Halftime is a form of drum and bass that emerged in the mid-2010s, built by writing tracks at the style's customary tempo near 170 BPM while placing the kick and snare on the half-time grid, so the music moves with the swagger of 85 BPM hip-hop over deep sub-bass weight. Pioneered by *Ivy Lab* and the London *20/20 LDN* collective, and advanced by *Alix Perez*, *Sam Binga* and *SHADES*, it favors sparse, swung drums, heavy low-end design and wide-open space between hits. Halftime became a bridge between drum and bass, dubstep, footwork and instrumental hip-hop, and a fixture of bass-music festival programming.
