Hard Trance

Hard trance is a form of trance music that emerged in Germany and the United Kingdom in the early 1990s, distinguished from mainstream trance by faster tempos of roughly 140 to 150 BPM, harder kick drums, and dense, aggressive electronic textures. Where conventional trance favors gradual, euphoric builds, hard trance compresses its energy into short, intense cycles built on driving offbeat basslines, hoover and acid lines, and anthemic synth riffs designed for large rave floors. Pioneered by producers such as *Commander Tom* and *Jones & Stephenson* on labels like #Noom Records# and #Bonzai Records#, it became a bridge between early rave music and the later hard dance styles.
