Hardgroove

Hardgroove is a style of techno named and codified in the mid-1990s by the British DJ and producer *Ben Sims*, built from looped disco, funk and hip-hop drum breaks, tribal percussion and relentless four-to-the-floor drive at roughly 135 to 145 BPM. Where much European techno of its era turned cold and industrial, hardgroove stayed warm, swung and physical, a DJ tool music of short loops mixed across three decks that enjoyed a major revival in the 2020s. It is defined as much by DJ technique, the continuous three-deck mix, as by any single record.
