Hardgroove Techno

Hardgroove Techno

Hardgroove is a style of techno that emerged in the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s, named after the mixtape series and record label run by *Ben Sims*. It favours groove over austerity: tracks run at roughly 130 to 145 BPM and are built from shuffled, densely layered percussion, tribal drum loops, disco and funk samples and syncopated basslines, arranged as DJ tools for mixing across three decks. Associated with producers such as *Mark Broom*, *Paul Mac* and *Glenn Wilson*, hardgroove stood apart from the colder industrial techno of its era and returned to prominence in the club revival of the 2020s.
