Harmonic Drone

Harmonic drone is drone music centred on consonance: sustained perfect intervals, overtone-rich tones and just intonation, held long enough for beating patterns and combination tones to become the music's real content. Descending from *La Monte Young*'s Theatre of Eternal Music and his justly tuned "The Well-Tuned Piano", and from *Eliane Radigue*'s ARP syntheses and *Phill Niblock*'s dense string masses, the practice values resonance over rhythm or melody. Its effect is meditative and luminous, a bright counterpart to the darker strains of drone and ambient music.
