Healing Music

Healing music is functional new age music composed for therapeutic settings: massage, Reiki, yoga, breathwork and clinical relaxation. Pioneers such as *Steven Halpern*, whose "Spectrum Suite" (1975) is usually credited as the first recording made expressly for healing, and *Iasos* and *Laraaji*, built the idiom on soft sustained tones, slow tempi, consonant intervals and the deliberate absence of surprise or climax. Dynamics stay low and even, pieces run long, and nature sounds and gentle chimes support a parasympathetic response in the listener.
