Hybrid Trap

A strain of electronic dance music formed in the early 2010s by merging the half-time drums, 808 bass and hi-hat patterns of trap with the build-and-drop construction and aggressive synthesizer leads of dubstep and brostep. Hybrid trap tracks typically open with a trap groove, intensify through risers and snare rolls, and release into drops built from metallic, detuned synth stabs and distorted bass, often at tempos near 140-150 beats per minute or in half-time feel. Developed largely through online distribution by producers associated with the EDM trap wave, the style became a fixture of festival sets and bass-music labels during the middle of the decade.
