Hypnotic Techno

Hypnotic Techno

Hypnotic techno is a style of techno built on repetition and gradual transformation: a single looped figure — a cycling synth line, a rolling bass pattern, a filtered drum groove — is sustained and slowly modulated until small changes register as events. Associated with the Berlin of *Ben Klock* and *Marcel Dettmann*, the Spanish school of *Oscar Mulero* and producers such as *Donato Dozzy* and *Function*, it favours deep, dub-inflected space and restrained tempos over peaks and drops. Its records, on labels including #Ostgut Ton#, #Semantica# and #PoleGroup#, are designed for long blends in dark rooms.
