Iberian Music

Iberian music gathers the traditions of Spain and Portugal, dominated by two great forms: Andalusian flamenco, with its cante jondo singing, twelve-beat comp谩s and virtuoso guitar, and Lisbon fado, the saudade-laden song of taverns and theatres accompanied by Portuguese guitarra. Around them sit Galician, Basque, Catalan and island traditions of bagpipes, tambourines and communal dance. Singers such as *Camar贸n de la Isla* and *Am谩lia Rodrigues* became national emblems, and later generations, from *Paco de Luc铆a* to *Mariza*, renewed both forms for international stages.
